Juan José Millás

When I was a little girl, my dad gave me “Cuentos a la interperie”, a book written by Juan José Millás, a Spanish writer and journalist. From that moment, he became a great reference for me, especially for his particular way of writing. This should be the first book that I read that wasn’t jus for children. It opened a whole new world of reading for me.

Juan José Millás was born in 1946, in Valencia, but has spent most of his life in Madrid, where he studied philosophy and literature at the Complutense University. When he was a child, he wasn’t a very good student, so he did the majority of his schoolwork at night, while he worked in a savings bank. Then, he abandoned his career at the university in his third year. After that, he obtained a job as an administrator in Iberia, dedicating himself to reading and writing.

He has written many books (“The city”, “Harsh times”, “Laura and Julio”, among others) and has won a lot of awards ( like Planet Award or Spring Award). And his work has been translated into 23 languages!

I really admire him because he writes in a very original and fun way. It is impossible to get bored reading his books.

Nothing like food

I’m living alone since last year in Santiago. Well, not alone, but only with my brother and two friends. And very, very far from my mother's food. That’s why the noodles have become my best ally since I started this adventure of living without my parents, because them doesn’t  require time or effort.

But gradually I was getting bored. Beef with noodles, egg with noodles, beef with noodles, egg with noodles. But I couldn’t stay away from the noodles for a practical reason.

One day I went to my boyfriend’s house and he cooked noodles for me. I thought "Ohh, not again!". However, when he served to me, them didn’t taste like always. They were delicious!!!

From there I cook it every time that I can. They are noodles with onions, red and green peppers, onions, capers, melted cheese, olives and olive oil. I like to prepare it every time I have a little more time than usual (and money haha). I cook them just as usual noodles are made, and sauté the ingredients separately, and then mix them, so it is still easy to do but much tastier!

Fever and love

I really love this picture, because it shows all the love that my mom feels for me, always.
The photo was taken in 1999, when I was three years old. My cheeks were red and my  hair was wet because I had a high fever.
This must be one of my earliest memories. I felt really bad, but my mom was always there, supporting me and taking care of me.

Also the picture shows how beautiful she is (now she is like 55 years old and she still been a pretty women).

My dad took the picture, he has always loved to capture every moment in photos.
We were in my grandma’s house. I still remember the mural paper of her room.  The picture remind me my childhood and all the happiness that I felt on that time of my life.

The time passes quickly, and in this right moment Im wearing the red sweter that my mom is wearing  in the picture!
